The Greenway Trail

City of Whittier Greenway Trail

The Greenway Trail, an abandoned railroad transformed into a beautiful bikeway and pedestrian path, offers residents and visitors of Whittier over five miles of enjoyment. The trail begins on the west city boundary at Pio Pico State Historic Park and the San Gabriel River Bike Trail to Mills Avenue.

The Greenway Trail was made possible with grants received from the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles River and Mountain Conservancy and Congressman Gary Miller. Supervisor Don Knabe also gave the City a $100,000 grant that will be used to install landscaping and post directional and interpretive signs. Additionally, Home Depot donated lighting along the trail which is expected to help deter vandals and provide security for those who prefer an evening run.

The City hopes to extend the Greenway Trail from Mills Avenue to Valley Home at the La Habra border.
